A flip-book “How the time stopped” is based on the Rijksmuseum archive. The design started from the observation of different times shown on the clocks at the moment, when the archival photograph was taken. The photographs are organized in the order of time: from 12 o’clock onwards. However, since the museum archive included clocks and watches that did not have one or both clock hands, time slowly stops throughout flipping. At first, the time passes as usual, then you can only guess an hour, and clocks at the end of the book loose the ability to show time completely. Pages with the overview of the whole archive are printed on the thicker paper and serve to interrupt the flow of the flipping to emphasize the time loss.
