In my mother tongue there is a word that means pain to many people, however everyone wants it to mean love.

This coloring book consists of two layers that explore the ambivalence of feelings toward one's country. The first layer to notice shows images of government terror and historical wounds. It portrays everything that leads to the bold, undeniable hate for regimes that lied, repressed, killed, and broke millions of lives. However, the coloring book has another layer of lines on the same page. The second layer shows the symbols of the subtle, still-existing love towards people, nature, literature, art, and childhood memories. This love should become uncovered, detached from the wound, and accepted. The process of coloring reveals this second layer of thinner lines, letting the pain disappear underneath the love.
